Layton worked closely with the State of Utah DFCM and representatives of UVU on this design-build project to construct this high-efficiency library, auditorium and data center for the new Utah Valley University.
The design-build team worked closely to understand the needs, goals and objectives of the state and university and incorporated them into the final product. The team was careful to provide as much building as possible within the given budget and time frame.
The facility was the first to incorporate Utah’s new High Performance Building Standard, making it highly energy efficient and environmentally friendly. Features of the new library include a large data center, classrooms, lecture halls that seat up to 150 students, private group study rooms, a café and an overall open environment of grand views of Utah Lake on the west and the majestic Mount Timpanogos to the east.
In addition to hosting the IT nerve center for the entire campus, the entire facility was designed to house the latest in library technology, giving the students an expanded learning environment among each other and other universities in Utah and throughout the world.
