Performing Arts Center at South Mountain Community College

Size:
32,000 SF

Location:
Phoenix, AZ

The Performing Arts Center includes a 350-seat theater, stage, orchestra pit, control suite, dressing rooms, a scene shop, costume shop, make-up lab, lobby and other features. The design provides natural light while creating patterns at night.

An additional 7,600 SF includes four classrooms. Two of these are multi-purpose — one especially for dance instruction and the other a black-box theater space that may be set up as a recording studio, a venue for experimental theater and for use as rehearsal space. Attractive landscaping and 95 new parking spaces round out the complex.

An important part of this campus expansion is the “arts quadrangle” — the space created by the multi-purpose classrooms on the north, the PAC on the east, the Fine Arts Building on the west and the Business Education Building on the south. This allows space for open-air concerts, art shows and sculpture displays.

The Performing Arts Center at South Mountain Community College in Phoenix was built by Layton Construction.
